Privacy Policy

ApiaryWay is built to help you manage your bees, not your personal data. We collect only what we need to make the app work and never sell your information to third parties.

1. Who We Are

ApiaryWay ("we", "us", "our") is an independent beekeeping application. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at hello@apiaryway.com.

2. What Data We Collect and Why

Account Information

If you create an account, we collect your email address. This is used solely to authenticate you and allow you to access your data across devices (Pro feature). We do not collect your name or any other personal identifiers unless you provide them voluntarily.

Hive and Inspection Data

The core of ApiaryWay is the hive data you enter, including inspection records, treatment logs, harvest records, queen notes and photographs. This data belongs to you.

Location

We request access to your device location (while the app is in use) to:

Your location is never stored on our servers. It is used in the moment to fetch weather data and set map coordinates, then discarded. You can deny location permission and still use most of the app.

Camera and Photos

We request camera and photo library access to let you photograph your hives and attach images to inspection records. Photos you take are stored locally on your device and, for Pro users, uploaded to cloud storage tied to your account. We do not use your photos for any other purpose.

Microphone

We request microphone access to allow you to record voice notes during inspections. Recordings are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers unless you are a Pro user with cloud sync enabled.

Calendar

We request calendar access to add inspection reminders to your device calendar. We read only the calendar entries we create. We do not read your existing calendar events.

Weather Data

To show weather conditions during inspections, the app sends your device location to the Met Office DataHub API (operated by the UK Met Office). Your location is sent directly from your device to their service and is subject to their privacy policy. No weather data or location data is stored on our servers.

AI Hive Analysis (Pro)

Pro users can request an AI analysis of their inspection history. When you use this feature, a summary of your hive data (inspection notes, dates and observations you have entered) is sent to our secure server-side function to generate insights. This data is processed and discarded immediately; we do not store it or use it to train AI models.

Subscription and Purchase Data

Subscriptions are handled by Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android) and managed via RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your subscription status (active or inactive) but do not receive your payment card details. RevenueCat may store a pseudonymous identifier linked to your subscription. Please refer to Apple's, Google's and RevenueCat's privacy policies for details of how they handle payment data.

We share data only with the third-party services listed below, and only to the minimum extent necessary to deliver the app's features:

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data to any other party.

5. Data Retention

Local data remains on your device until you delete the app. Cloud data (Pro users) is retained as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and all associated cloud data by emailing hello@apiaryway.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Security

All data in transit between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Cloud data is stored in a Supabase database with row-level security, meaning each user can only access their own data. API keys and secrets are never stored in the app binary.

7. Children

ApiaryWay is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, export or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@apiaryway.com.

If you are based in the UK or EU, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, this is the ICO: ico.org.uk).

9. Account & Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your ApiaryWay account and all associated data at any time by emailing hello@apiaryway.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request". Please include the email address associated with your account. We will permanently delete your account and all cloud data within 30 days and confirm by email once done.

Note: locally stored data (free tier) remains on your device until you uninstall the app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of ApiaryWay after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
